About the Role
We are looking for a talented and motivated Mid-Level WordPress Developer to join our engineering team. You will work on custom WordPress solutions for enterprise clients across media, publishing, e-commerce, and marketing industries.
The ideal candidate has a solid technical foundation, hands-on WordPress experience, and a strong desire to learn and grow into more advanced development and architecture responsibilities.
Responsibilities
1. WordPress Development
- Strong understanding of WordPress Core architecture and request lifecycle.
- Ability to work confidently with Actions, Filters, WP_Query, Template Hierarchy, Rewrite Rules, Cron Jobs, and REST API.
- Understanding of WordPress database structure and content relationships.
- Ability to debug WordPress issues without relying solely on plugins.
- Develop custom themes and plugins using modern WordPress practices.
- Implement new features, templates, and functionality based on project requirements.
- Familiarity with Gutenberg block development and ACF/ACF Blocks. Ability and willingness to learn advanced block development when required.
- Integrate third-party APIs and data sources into WordPress.
- Implement custom post types, taxonomies, shortcodes, widgets, and menus.
- Knowledge of WordPress Coding standards.
2. Front-End Integration
- Convert Figma/Sketch designs into responsive, pixel-perfect UI components.
- Strong understanding of JavaScript fundamentals (ES6+), DOM manipulation, asynchronous programming, and API integration.
- Experience with HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, responsive design, and modern front-end development practices.
- Basic familiarity with React and Gutenberg development.
- Ensure cross-browser compatibility and high-quality front-end performance.
3. Quality, Performance & Testing
- Follow coding standards, security best practices, and project conventions.
- Troubleshoot bugs and ensure smooth functionality across devices.
- Perform basic performance optimization (caching, DB queries, assets).
- Collaborate with QA teams for testing, UAT, and bug resolution.
4. Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with project managers, designers, and senior engineers to deliver tasks on time.
- Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, grooming, and code reviews.
- Ask the right questions, communicate blockers early, and ensure transparency in progress.
5. Learning & Growth
- Stay updated with new WordPress features, PHP improvements, and front-end innovations.
- Follow guidance from senior developers and actively learn advanced techniques.
- Contribute to documentation, internal tools, and engineering best practices.
Primary Skills
- WordPress Development: Strong understanding of WP themes, plugins, actions, filters, WP Query, and general architecture.
- PHP Fundamentals: Strong understanding of PHP 7/8 fundamentals, OOP concepts, design patterns, debugging, and backend problem-solving.
- Front-End Skills: HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, JavaScript (ES6+), jQuery, and responsive UI development.
- Database Knowledge: Understanding of MySQL queries, optimization basics, and database structure.
- Basic API Integration: Experience working with REST APIs and JSON.
- Version Control: Good working knowledge of Git, branching, and pull request workflows.
- Debugging & Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose issues using logs, debugging tools, and systematic testing.
- Communication & Collaboration: Comfortable working in distributed teams and communicating effectively.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Gutenberg block development and ACF/ACF Blocks.
- Experience with WooCommerce, Multisite, Membership, or Paywall platforms.
- Exposure to WordPress VIP, Pantheon, WP Engine, or Kinsta environments.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and headless/decoupled architectures.
- Contributions to WordPress Core, plugins, themes, or the WordPress community.
- Understanding of performance optimization (caching, CDNs, Core Web Vitals).
- Experience in an agency environment or working with multiple concurrent projects.
