About the Role
As a Senior Engineering Manager at Multidots, you own the growth and engineering health of your pod, and you start shaping how engineering works across the company. You do everything an Engineering Manager does — and then some: running training, helping us hire, and bringing technical judgment to estimation and solution design.
Delivery — timelines, scope, and client coordination — is owned by our Project Managers, so your energy goes where it compounds: people, capability, and engineering quality. You’re a senior technical voice people trust on solutions and standards, and your influence reaches beyond your own pod into how Multidots scopes and builds enterprise WordPress.
This role is WordPress-focused, but not WordPress-only. As the publishing technology landscape evolves — headless architectures, platforms like Sanity, and new tooling — you’ll help the team evaluate what’s worth adopting and keep our engineering future-ready.
What You’ll Own
Your team & talent
- Own the growth and health of your pod — utilization, morale, and development. You’ll run structured reviews, build individual development plans, and make sure your engineers are challenged, supported, and retained.
- Help us grow the engineering org. You’ll run training and skill-development programs that level up the whole team, and play an active role in hiring — interviewing candidates and helping us bring in people who meet our bar.
Engineering quality
- Own your pod’s code-quality metrics and drive continuous improvement. You’ll sharpen the review process, reduce the escaped-defect rate, and hold a standard the rest of the team can follow.
- Drive AI-augmented engineering in your pod. You’ll pilot and standardize AI-assisted workflows — from development to review and testing — raising your team’s effective output without compromising quality.
- Champion our engineering standards. You’ll drive adoption of modern WordPress patterns, vet the tools and libraries the team relies on, and keep our quality practices non-negotiable.
Solutions & technical judgment
- Own the technical estimate. You’ll set up the estimation structure, draft estimates, and take them through review to sign-off — giving PMs the sound technical numbers they build delivery plans on.
- Shape the solution. You’ll contribute to solution design and recommend the right technical approach for moderate-scope work, balancing what’s elegant against what’s practical to build.
- Step into pre-sales. As the technical voice in scoping calls, you’ll help shape the engineering sections of proposals and give our sales conversations real technical credibility.
Technical Expertise We Expect
- Advanced WordPress engineering across complex themes, plugins, Gutenberg/React, the WP REST API, and core internals — with the judgment to make sound design trade-offs.
- Strong performance instincts: MySQL optimization, caching layers (Redis, Memcached), CDN integration, and Core Web Vitals.
- Deep security practices — you set expectations for sanitization, escaping, and WordPress hardening across the pod.
- Fluent in Git pull-request workflows, PHPUnit, and CI/CD; comfortable collaborating with DevOps on deployments and hosting.
What Success Looks Like
Within a year, your pod’s engineering quality is trending up, your technical estimates are trusted by the PMs who plan around them, and you’ve helped raise the bar on hiring and training — making you a go-to senior voice well beyond your own team.
What We’re Looking For
- 8–12 years in engineering with a proven record of leading engineering pods.
- Deep enterprise WordPress expertise (themes, plugins, Gutenberg, block APIs) and sound solution-design judgment.
- Experience owning engineering quality metrics, technical estimation, and solution design.
- A strong mentor who shows up in hiring and training.
- An adaptable technologist — deeply skilled in WordPress, but eager to evaluate and learn adjacent platforms as publishing tech evolves.
Nice to Have
- Architecture experience with WordPress multisite, multilingual setups, or large-scale content migrations.
- Exposure to headless / decoupled WordPress (React, Next.js) and designing REST or GraphQL APIs for front-end consumption.
- Performance engineering at scale — caching strategy (Redis, Memcached, object cache), database/query optimization, and Core Web Vitals.
- A track record of building or piloting AI-augmented engineering workflows and rolling them out to a team.
- Public technical writing or speaking, and exposure to large-scale publishing, media, or e-commerce platforms.
